If you smell gas:
- Turn off the gas supply at your meter
- Open windows and doors
- Ensure gas appliances have not been left on and unlit
- Don’t smoke or use a naked flame
- Don’t unplug or switch anything electrical on or off
- Don’t use a mobile phone in the immediate area
- Ensure access is available to your property for the emergency service engineer

- Turn off the gas supply at the emergency control valve at your cylinders or bulk storage vessel
- Open windows and doors and ventilate at low level
- Ensure gas appliances have not been left on and unlit
- Don’t smoke or use a naked flame
- Don’t unplug or switch anything electrical on or off
- Don’t use a mobile phone in the immediate area
- Ensure access is available to your property for the emergency service engineer

Procedures in the Event of Suspected Carbon Monoxide
Symptoms of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning:
Headache, Breathlessness, Nausea, Dizziness, Collapse, Loss of Consciousness, Tiredness, Drowsiness, Vomiting, Pains in Chest, Stomach Pains, Erratic Behaviour, Visual Problems
Advice
1. Switch off the appliance and do not reuse until remedial action has been taken
2. Shut off the gas supply at the emergency control valve and other fuel burning appliances (as listed above)
3. If gas continues to flow contact your gas supplier
4. Open doors and windows to ventilate the room – do not sleep in this room
5. Do not attempt to use any fuel burning appliances until all have been checked
